When listing the greatest bands of all time, most critics and fans find it impossible not to mention the Beatles. The Beatles defined a generation with their music and influenced countless musicians since, but behind every great band, there is usually a great manager. With the case of the Beatles, it was Brian Epstein: “the Fifth Beatle”.

Your geeky friends and obsessed uncles will debate until they’re blue in the face over who deserves the hallowed “Fifth Beatle” mantle, but Paul McCartney once famously assigned the title to the man who discovered his band, and worked behind the scenes to secure their mega stardom: Brian Epstein.

Brian Epstein, who managed The Beatles in the 1960s, will see his story told in new comic The Fifth Beatle, due for release later this year. The comic will be written by Vivek J Tiwary, who also wrote the Green Day musical American Idiot.

New York Comic Con wrapped up at New York City’s Javits Center, breaking the 100,000 plus attendance record from last year by at least 15,000 attendees.

Twenty years ago, when he was in business school, Vivek J. Tiwary became fascinated with the story of a man he calls “a historical mentor who I never met”: Brian Epstein, who discovered and managed the Beatles.

Brian Epstein, the man often called the “fifth Beatle” for discovering and managing the Fab Four until his untimely death in 1967, lives on in a new graphic novel by Vivek J. Tiwary, the Wall Street Journal reports.
