Legendary New York disc jockey Murray the K famously called himself “the Fifth Beatle” back in 1964, and late pianist Billy Preston was given the honorific for actually being credited on the Fab Four’s 1969 single “Get Back.”
Beatles’ producer George Martin was called the Fifth Beatle, as were their personal assistant and Apple Corps CEO Neil Aspinall and publicist Derek Taylor. But “if anyone was the Fifth Beatle,” stated Paul McCartney, “it was Brian.”
